Due to some technical issues (translation, I’m learning how to navigate WordPress and its quirks), I will be resubmitting this post as well as “This is No Joke”.
Somehow when I posted them, they were only accessible to current subscribers. The purpose of this website is to encourage the reader, regardless if you are a subscriber or not. I’d love for you to choose to subscribe as each devotional would automatically be sent to your email when posted. But, if you prefer to just stop by every now and then to read a devotional or two, that is also welcome. Either way, I’m glad you are here.
The original post is below.
The scripture came to mind today about David, as a shepherd boy, miraculously defeated the mighty Goliath. What captured my attention was not so much what he did, but how it impacted the fear-filled army. Prior to David stepping out in faith to kill Goliath, King Saul, along with his massive army, was gripped by fear. Not one man volunteered to take on the giant. No one, except David, because God anointed and appointed him to be “the one” to take down Goliath. Yes, that’s good. But what hits home for me this day is that once the army saw the fierce enemy, dead on his back, that was all the push they needed to pursue the now terrified Phillistine army!
Sometimes, all you need is a push to pursue. You know that nudge of encouragement to do what the Lord told you to do. I was thinking about diving into unknown waters and although I’d prayed about it, I was still a little hesitant. I’d gone through the research phase and I knew what to do. I was just too afraid to step out there. So when the Lord dropped this thought on me, I knew what He was saying. There are days when we’re like David, standing on the Word of God, and killing the giant. But there are also times when we’re more in the camp of fearful soldiers needing that push to pursue the enemy God said we can overtake! I understood what camp I was in.
So if you are in the camp of “knee-knocking, sweat beading down your neck, saint paralyzed by the towering giant of a situation, entity, person, etc,” follow the push of the faith-filled, ready, willing, and able stone-throwing, did-not-miss, God anointed and appointed David, and pursue!
1 Samuel 17:49-53 KJV
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled. 52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron. 53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:28-29 (KJV)
