As a little girl, I loved organizing my room, especially my dresser. Oh, it had to be just so. I’d dump every drawer out onto my bed and begin the enjoyable process of reorganizing. Although I did love to be organized, it also served a greater purpose. You see, I hated going to bed. So, I decided that I would use my “need to organize” as the vehicle to get out of going to bed at the designated time. My wise mother saw right through me and my delays. She said it was time, so I had to quickly toss everything back in the drawers and head off to bed at her set time, not mine.
The Lord has been pushing me to get into the meat and potatoes of an assignment He’d given me some time ago. I didn’t ignore Him; no, I was moving forward. I love to put together lists and schedules. There’s the excitement of the hustle and bustle, determining what was needed, pricing, shopping, and putting everything in place. Yes, I was in deep gathering mode. I needed this, that, and the other. And the Lord met every need. The Lord opened doors and everything I could possibly need was now in place.
But as I sat at my desk fumbling through the ample lists I’d created, I realized there was nothing else to buy, put together, collect, decipher, color code, etc. It was time to build! But wait, I thought while looking around at everything I had acquired. The truth was gathering had taken on a new role, that of stalling. Ouch! Gathering had its’ place, but that season is now over.
So here I am tonight, reminding you just as the Lord spoke to me, it’s time to build. Stop procrastinating. You have gathered enough, and it’s time to start building.
I thought about how King David upon finding out he wasn’t permitted by God to build the temple, gathered building materials so his son, Solomon, would have the materials to build the temple. As I looked at the scripture reference, I noticed a scripture about Moses and the Tabernacle. A call had gone out, and every willing person gave offerings for the tabernacle. So much was collected that the men in charge went to Moses and said the people had brought much more than enough for the work. Moses commanded the people to stop collecting because they had so much. I laughed at the following verse: Exodus 36:7 For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.
The message is crystal clear: you have enough stuff to do what I called you to – it’s time to build!
The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the Lord, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the Lord had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses. Exodus 35:29 (KJV)
Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the Lord put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the Lord had commanded.2 And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:3 And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning.4 And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made;5 And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the Lord commanded to make.6 And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing.7 For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much. Ecodus 36:1-7 (KJV)

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
