I Need Another Touch

I see men as trees.
I just had laser surgery in my left eye and gingerly made my way to the parking lot. It was challenging as everything I saw from that eye was double, blurry, and had an orange tinge. The right eye was fine, so I closed my left eye and carefully followed my brother down the sidewalk to the car. I breathed a sigh of relief once inside the car and rode home with both eyes closed much of the time. It was frustrating when I did have my eyes open – I couldn’t focus.

When the doctor started my procedure, there was a moment when everything in my left eye went black! I cried out – I can’t see anything, is that supposed to happen? He reassured me all was well, even though it felt wrong. It was part of the process I had to go through to correct the problems.

The whole situation was a surprise to me as I had no signs of visual trauma – no pain, no flashes, nothing. I had no idea there were issues. About a month ago, I decided it was time for new glasses (it had been three years). A series of tests revealed I needed the procedure I’d just gone through.

While I blinked repeatedly, unsuccessfully fighting the blurred haze of my left eye, the words, “I see men as trees,” came back to me, making me smile. It hit differently as I stood there anxiously awaiting the return of normal vision in my eye. Oh, how that man must have felt – to experience such a dramatic change. Yet the job wasn’t complete.

Jesus directed the blind man to express what he saw – his description explained it all. His healing wasn’t complete. Because of his statement, Jesus touched him again. It means much to be heard and then for the Lord to respond. Jesus wasn’t asking just out of being polite. He wanted the man to be completely healed. Jesus didn’t leave the man’s vision in flux. He finished what He started. Jesus touched the man again.

There’s nothing wrong with knowing you need another touch from Jesus. He wants you to be whole. So, let tell Him you see men as trees. Another touch from Jesus is on the way.

22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. Mark 8:22-26 (KJV)

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29 (KJV)
