In 2005, a church member was going through a season of great difficulties. While the member shared with me agonizing life events, I prayed for the Lord to give me the right words for the moment. I kept hearing, “She needs rest for her weary soul,” which referenced Matthew 11:28-29.
I shared with the member what God put on my heart and prayed for the Lord to grant rest, which she desperately needed. After our conversation, though, the scripture continued marinating in my heart. It felt like a magazine or book title, but I didn’t know what to do with it. The next day, the Lord dropped a scripture in my heart, and I quickly wrote what came to me about it and emailed it to the member and a few others. The following day, the same thing occurred. I titled the emails “Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotionals.” Every weekday, I’d pray and write what God gave me for the devotional. “Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotionals” was born.
In October 2006, the Lord opened a door for me to publish the devotionals on the Rest For A Weary Soul website for the next 11 years. Over the years, subscribers encouraged me to put together a book of devotionals. I hesitated at first, but in 2012, I published “Rest For A Weary Soul Devotionals, Volume 1.”
In 2016, I found myself at a crossroads. Every day, I’d pray for a devotional but received nothing. I thought the season of writing devotionals was over. I tried to write a “So long,” devotional , but that didn’t come together either. So, I sat in silence. The Lord eventually revealed to me it was time to complete a writing project I’d started some 20, yes, 20 years ago! Two years later, the project Going Through Hell on the Way to Heaven was published.
Here I am, once again, grateful for the opportunity to share with you what God gives me. My desire for you as you read the devotionals is that they will be a soothing, warm reminder that the Lord of our lives sees, hears, and cares enough to send rest for our souls. I am a woman of God who continually experiences the healing and strengthening power of God’s word at work in my life. May you also be blessed and strengthened.
